Tea
Trivia Answer
At
the Starbucks by the REV office they offer green, red, and oolong
teas. All yummy alternatives to coffee with refills! I’ll
admit, I was pleasantly surprised!
Gee,
can you guess where I was when I wrote this?

The
difference between right & right!
Do you do the right thing, or do you do things right?
My friend Peter (not his real
name), is the GM of a large manufacturing plant. I caught up with him last
week over a cup of coffee, and was surprised to hear he was helping his
number-2 to apply for a better position in another plant!

David was
surprised too! Actually he wasn't: but this is our way of wishing our REV
Genius good luck before he moves on to his new job next month!
In his 3+ years here, he's transformed himself from a nerdy IT guy into a
marketing & sales machine.
Thanks for everything David!

This
surprised me! Not only is he letting his number-2 guy leave, but he is
actually helping to move out! This would definitely inconvenience Peter, as
he’d have to spend time to find an equally good replacement, train and mentor
him. And to top it off, Peter’s number-2 is a valued member of the team who’s
consistently performed very well.
Why is Peter helping his number-2
leave? Because it’s
the right thing to do!
Huh? What does that mean? It’s
quite simple actually. For the sake of his number-2’s career development,
Peter is encouraging him to move on, and is actively helping him with the
search process. Peter is selflessly putting the needs of others above his
own. Peter
is doing the right thing!
He could have easily done things
right by making his number 2 stay, give him more money, maintain the status
quo and cruise along. Instead, Peter is doing the right thing in helping a
young man grow and live up to his potential. Peter isn’t taking the easy way
out, he’s taking the much harder route, but it doesn’t matter because it’s the right thing to do.
It would be really nice to do the
right thing today, and every day, wouldn't it? So how about doing the right
thing for someone after reading this, and make your workplace, your home, or
anywhere in between just that much better?
What are some simple things you
could do immediately? Consider these suggestions:
- really listen to your staff when they see you
without replying to email and sending text messages at the same time,
- smile at the next random person you
meet - just for fun,
- send a handwritten
birthday card instead of an electronic one,
- mentor your high potential team member
for just 15 minutes every week,
- say 'thank you' to your boss of your staff just
because it’ll make them feel appreciated,
- help someone else like my friend Peter is
doing!
Do
the right thing,
and do let me know how it goes!

Feeling Good at REV's Internal Retreat
Maybe it's the fresh air of Moganshan, but having just came back
from naked Home Village I feel great: reenergized,
full of ideas, and accomplished! Yes, plenty of work was done: met clients,
wrote training proposals and even PhotoREAD 3 books in the evenings.
It’s a great feeling to retire another stack of books to the
bookshelf. This time it was:
- “Mavericks at Work” by William
Taylor and Polly Labarre,
- “Reinventing the Body and
Resurrecting the Soul" by Deepak Chopra
- “What on Earth Happened?” by
Christopher Lloyd

There’s nothing like feeling the heft
of a book and the comforting scent and familiar scratchiness of book paper,
so when you’re ready to read, come to REV! Feel free to borrow, dog-ear and
write in the margins of these wonderful reads. Keep reading!

Question: My boss never clearly tells me what to do, which
frustrates me to no end. Time after time, he gives me vague expectations or
grand visions without any explicit directions of how we will actually
accomplish it. And then afterwards, the feedback he gives me is just as
unclear.
